WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. – (March 30, 2018): The Greenbrier Champions Tennis Classic will celebrate its seventh anniversary in a big way September 15-16, with a weekend packed full of tennis and the game’s biggest stars.
Sisters, Venus Williams and Serena Williams, highlight a six-player lineup, which includes two current men’s tennis players and two tennis legends, who will be announced in the coming weeks.
“The Greenbrier Champions Tennis Classic has become one of our premier events and has grown bigger and better with each year,” said Dr. Jill Justice, President of The Greenbrier. “We are thrilled to have two of the biggest stars in the sport, Venus and Serena Williams, headline what will be an attractive field from top to bottom. We’re looking forward to an incredible weekend of tennis.”
The weekend schedule will include a women’s singles match and a men’s singles match on Saturday, September 15, as well as a legends singles match and a mixed doubles match on Sunday, September 16. All matches will be held at the picturesque Center Court at Creekside Stadium, a state-of-the-art venue built in 2015 that seats 2,500 fans and features amazing views of Howard’s Creek and The Old White TPC golf course.
This will be Venus’ third trip to The Greenbrier, having participated in The Greenbrier Champions Tennis Classic in 2016 and 2017. Venus has been ranked No. 1 in the world on three different occasions for a total of 11 weeks. She has won seven Grand Slam singles titles and 14 Grand Slam doubles titles. Venus has also won four Olympic gold medals and nearly 800 professional singles matches.
This year marks Serena’s first trip to The Greenbrier. Serena has been ranked No. 1 in the world on eight different occasions for 319 total weeks. She has won 23 Grand Slam singles titles and 14 Grand Slam doubles titles. Like her sister, she also has four Olympic gold medals.
“It doesn’t get any bigger than the Williams sisters,” said Justice. “They are two of the best to have ever played the game, and they are great ambassadors for the sport. We are so lucky to have them come and play in our beautiful stadium in front of what I know will be an enthusiastic crowd.”
