Mike Deskins, a native of Monroe County, West Virginia, began his career at The Greenbrier in March 1997, as a bus boy in our Main Dining Room. Mike worked his way up through the ranks and has spent more than 17 of those years in the beverage department, the most recent years spent as a Manager and now Director of Bars and Spirits. As the Director, Mike not only brings significant experience and leadership, but also a passion to provide exceptional service to all guests in his care.
From 2013 – 2018, under the supervision of Brian McClure, Master Sommelier, Mike gained knowledge of wine and began the Greenbrier Private Select Bourbon barrel program in September 2016. The Greenbrier’s first private select was a barrel from Wild Turkey. Mike was hooked! In his spare time, he began reading and learning as much as possible about bourbon, enthralled by the history and stories of the industry. After being promoted to Director in 2018, he immediately began his quest to enhance and expand the barrel program. The Greenbrier has now shared more than 15 private select barrels with its guests from several well-known distillers. On most Friday and Saturday evenings, Mike can be found behind the bar in Café Carleton, presenting Greenbrier Private Select bourbon tastings.
When not at The Greenbrier, or continuing his education with spirits and wine, Mike enjoys spending his free time with his wife, two children and family.
